Counties Accepted for BSECE Candidates

To enter the program, a prospective student must have acceptable scores on the GACE Basic Skills Test, ACT (English plus Math composite of 43) or SAT (Verbal plus Math composite of 1000) and must have completed a minimum of 58 semester hours of undergraduate college credit with a minimum GPA of 2.5. No credit will be awarded for courses with grades below C -, for duplicate courses, or for remedial courses. The 58 semester hours should include at least 24 semester hours of general education (core) courses. The general education courses must include the following:

English Composition 3 semester hours minimum
 

Math

 

US History

3 semester hours minimum

3 semester hours minimum

 
Social Science 6 semester hours minimum
 

Fine Arts

 

Natural Science

3 semester hours minimum

3 semester hours minimum

 
Developmental Psychology

3 semester hours minimum


On occasion, a student may be allowed to enter the program with minimal deficiencies in the above general education requirements (excluding English Composition). Students must fulfill all general education requirements prior to being accepted into the Teacher Education Program at the end of the first semester of classes. Specific deficiencies will be described to the prospective student at the time of acceptance into the program. Students are advised not to take more than one additional course at a time while enrolled in the program.

Additional Requirements
In addition to the academic requirements, a prospective student must be at least 23 years of age, be currently employed in an instructional roll at grades P - 5, and have at least one year of previous experience in such a position.
